Condition of temples

Yatra to protest the selling of temple lands in AP

Press Release

Recently the government of Andhra
Pradesh has sold 5 acres of land in Nellore in spite of our protests
and demand to stop the auction. There is no law and order, no morals,
no principles, overly zealous to destroy Hindu culture by selling the
lands and diverting the Temples. Deception is rampant. Trickery is
widespread.  Honesty is gone. We have to make people aware of all these
practices so that they will be equipped with the government's
anti-Hindu stance. Hopefully they will exercise their voting rights so
that they will elect people who treat all religions equally without
giving preference to one religion over others. Equal treatment should
be law of the land.

Hindu plan for £2m temple

Oxford could soon have a Hindu temple to add to its churches, mosques and synagogue.

Leaders of Oxfordshire's 500-strong Hindu community have launched a
campaign to construct a £2m purpose-built temple in the city as they
currently have no base for communal prayer.

Organisers would like to build a 12,000 square foot temple - about
three quarters of the size of Oxford Ice Rink - with Headington being
earmarked as a potential location.

The county's Hindu community currently has to hire locations such
as Sandhills Primary School for the festival of Dashera and Wheatley
Primary School for its Divali celebrations, and would ideally like to
find a site with space for 150 cars.

India's Temples Go Green

The Tirumala temple, in the south Indian city of Tirupathi, is one of
Hinduism's holiest shrines. Over 5,000 pilgrims a day visit this city
of seven hills, filling Tirumala's coffers with donations and making it
India's richest temple. But since 2002, Tirumala has also been
generating revenue from a less likely source: carbon credits. For
decades, the temple's community kitchen has fed nearly 15,000 people,
cooking 30,000 meals a day. Five years ago, Tirumala adopted solar
cooking technology, allowing it to dramatically cut down on the amount
of diesel fuel it uses. The temple now sells the emission reduction
credits it earns to a Swiss green-technology investor, Good Energies
Inc.

platinum jubilee, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is
intensifying its "socio-spiritual" campaign that aims at reaching out
to Dalits, backward communities and tribals, bringing the message of
Vedic religion to them.

The
TTD, the managing body of the Lord Venkateswara hill shrine, says the
programme, which has three wings --'Dalita Govindam', 'Matsya Govindam'
and 'Girijan Govindam' --
is part of a "social revolution" that will help eradicate social evils and strengthen the Hindu religious structure.
