Crowds of up to 1,500 are expected each day of the three-day festival at the Minnesota Hindu Temple, which serves as a cultural and spiritual hub for about 30,000 Hindus in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota and the southern part of Manitoba.

USA: Hindus have applauded internationally renowned Seattle Art Museum (SAM) for launching an interactive website featuring  “Stories of Krishna: The Adventures of a Hindu God”.
 
Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, praising SAM for its promotion of Hindu faith traditions, culture and art, urged all major museums of the world to organize exhibitions of Hindu art, sculptures, and architecture to make aware the present and future generations about their richness.
 

Nevada Clergy Asks Cameron to Add Disclaimer to Upcoming Blockbuster "Avatar"

Supporting the concern of Hindus regarding the upcoming Hollywood blockbuster "Avatar", the Nevada Clergy Association (NCA) has urged its famed director James Cameron to put a disclaimer in the beginning of the movie explaining that it has no relationship with Hinduism or its concepts/terminology.

Bishop Gene Savoy Jr., NCA president, in a release in Nevada (USA) today, said that the concerns of the Hindu brothers were very genuine and filmmakers should be very careful when handling religious concepts and terminology. We were just asking for more sensitivity towards faith traditions, Savoy said and added that if Cameron needed any expertise on Hinduism related issues, he could contact acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed and he would gladly provide the resources.

Hindu gods to samba at Brazilian carnival

PANAJI: Ganesh, Durga and Surya will form part of a carnival float that will roll through the streets of Sao Paulo, Brazil’s largest city on
Saturday night. The float is being presented by the Escola de Samba Perola Negra of Sao Paulo, and its theme is “Guided by Surya journeying through India in quest of the sacred pearl”.

According to the samba club’s website www.gresperolanegra.com.br the story is about a fictitious person who in a dream is transported to India and awakens in a lotus garden.

Ganesh, who is described in the website as “Hindu God whose blessings are invoked at the beginning of any journey”, emerges from a lotus and sends the person on a mission to find the sacred pearl — the symbol of love. First, though, the person has to meet with the Sun God Surya and seek his help in finding the exact spot.

Fourth Bharatvanshi Gaurav Samman presented to HST, Mauritius

An old house once owned by a church in the Durban suburb of Queensburgh is being converted into a Hindu temple.

The Sri Mayapur Dham, run by the Vaishnava Research Forum, will be the first permanent Hindu place of worship in the area.

It recently opened its doors to the Hindu community which for four years has had to attend religious events at halls in the area.

While the exterior of the temple is still under construction, weekly services, music and Hindi lessons and Hindu scripture classes have already commenced at the site.

Forum member Jack Baboolal said the Battersea Avenue house was bought from the Gereformeerde Kerk for R1.2-million and transferred to the organ- isation last month.

New York. A US-based Hindu advocacy group has taken strong objection to historian Michael Wood's documentary 'The Story of India,' being telecast on public television, describing its presentation of the Aryan Migration Theory (AMT) as 'agenda driven.'

Rejecting the theory, the Hindu American Foundation (HAF) said India has always been the cradle of Hindu civilization and there is no debate about it.

"Michael Wood clearly admires India and its people, and this shows through in his passionate depiction of India," said Sheetal Shah, HAF's Director of Development and Outreach.

Hindus have demanded immediate setting-up of an independent "media watchdog" by European Union to monitor the frequent media discrimination and bias against Roma people in Europe, who reportedly face apartheid like conditions.
