muslim growth & its impact on Indian politics

Major issues against the majority

The Jammu and Kashmir government, after
deliberations in the Cabinet (PDP was also a part of it), decided to
transfer 40 hectares of forest land along the pilgrimage path to the
Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) to construct tenements, toilets and
other conveniences for the benefit of the yatris.

The Shrine
Board would be paying Rs.2.5 crore to the government as a gesture of
its appreciation. The land belongs to the `secular' government and the
government has all the right to give it to the Shrine Board as a
welfare measure. But, this is objected by the Muslim leaders Mufti
Mohammed Sayeed of PDP, Farook Abdullah of NC and the leaders of the
Hurriyat conference, which instigated the Muslim majority of Kashmir to
resort to violence and arson attacking government buildings and other
business establishments and even the buses carrying the Amarnath
pilgrims injuring many of them.

the Sri Amarnathji Shrine Board to enable the latter to provide
accommodation facilities to the thousands of Hindu pilgrims who visit

militant outfits in Jammu and Kashmir to make a sober and mature
appraisal of the larger issues at stake.  It is the attitude of

Anti-India protests by 20,000 strong mob paralyze Kashmir

SRINAGAR, India (AP) — Tens of thousands of Kashmiris filled the
streets for a fourth day of protests Thursday, after police killings
during earlier demonstrations enflamed their anger over the transfer of

Protesters
clashed with riot police in several parts of Srinagar, the main city of
India's portion of Kashmir. Police responded to rock-throwers by firing
live ammunition and tear gas into the air in an attempt to disperse the
mobs, said police officer Sajjad Ahmed.

More than 20,000 people

thousands of police and paramilitary soldiers were spread out to
control the angry mobs.

No injuries were immediately reported Thursday.

Outraged chorus from Muslim groups to CPM: Support China, don’t use us to push your case

aul & Virendra Nath Bhatt

New Delhi, Lucknow, June 24: CPM
Politburo member M K Pandhe today tried to claim he didn’t mean to
inject a “communal” twist in the nuclear deal debate. But his remark
that “an overwhelming majority of the Muslim masses” oppose the nuclear
deal and that Mulayam Singh Yadav should think twice before supporting
it sparked off a chorus of outrage from Muslim organisations and
leaders to the Samajwadi Party itself. ain from virtually all
Muslim leaders The Indian Express spoke to was: the CPM’s attempt to
communalise foreign policy was condemnable and, yes, some Muslim groups
are opposed to the nuclear deal with the United States but that has
nothing to do with their being Muslim. Remarks like these, they said,
only end up alienating Muslims further by reinforcing the stereotype
that Muslims have to “prove” their loyalty to the “national interest”
every time there is a debate over it.
