Namaste, The objective of this post is to describe my experiences as a IT Milan Swayamsewak and hope those who haven't had this experience yet might be encouraged to do so. During many of the discussions we have been having on multiple fora, a frequent grievance we have been have been having is that in today's globalised world where young people have lesser & lesser time, the concept of shakha as tool for national resurgence & youth empowerment is obsolete. I very well empathise with the young people when they see all the injustice & gross suffering of the people and yet are not able to play an active organised role in national resurgance. To offset this, the RSS has come up with a concept called IT Milans, which is increasingly giving voice to the burgeoning ranks of modern youth to walk hand in hand, to fight against the adversaries that our beloved Bharat Mata faces. Personally to me, Milans have meant more to me than can be put in any amount of words. IT Milans opened me to a world of like minded patriots who shared the same concern for the nation's well-being & passion for making change possible. I was always a Hindu sympathizer and felt pain when injustice was being done to Indians. Yet I felt worse when I realized that more more than this useless sympathizing, I was not doing anything to improve any of the things I was concerned about. And that's when I came to know about the concept of IT Milans from Orkut and decided to visit a Milan; and that one visit changed everything, it introduced me to people with "nerves of steel, muscles of iron" and a spirit to make change possible. At Milans we have had boudhiks that have not just been waste of time but have resulted in tangible action. I have made friends or brothers whom have become an integral part of my life. Together we did many sewa projects; organized classes for poor children, distributed aid to the needy & much more. My life got a new meaning after I started attending Milans. IT Milans has made me into a Karmayogi. Tht's lot on how Milans work, but as I said these are not enough to explain how effective the concept of Milan is. I hope to find more time to write on milans & youth in near future. To those of you already attending the milans, pls mail me at sangh.milan AT gmail. Your experiences & words will be the nectar for the Milans to surge forward. And to those who haven't yet attended a milan, the voice of the Mother beckons them. We can no longer play dhritarashtras to the attrocities against our beloved mother... for every Mahamud that India faces today there is a Jaichand amongt us and I hold every youth guilty of complicity of Jaichand's crime who hasn't done enough to thwart the designs of 21st century Mahamuds. .. the panchajanya is blowing... wake up...take up your cudgels.. come join hands for we can make our dreams of Akhand Bharat come true.... let's strive to make the IT Milans a grand success.
Bharat Mata Ki Jai.. Harikrishnan P.S: For more information on how to join IT Milans u can mail me at sangh.milan AT gmail DOT com IT milans are for all kinds of proffesionals (not just people in IT... it has been a grand success in cities like Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad etc.

Hi, Nice article.. but i
Hi,
Nice article.. but i would like highlight the fact that the milans are over sensitised and seen from an emotional point of view.. i hold your post also in the same line..
If we see, shakas are means of get-together.. that's essential and good point.. but, from my personal observance, it has become ritualistic now a days.. i went to see how shakas perform for around one week.. everyday, the swayamsevaks come and pray to the dwaja flag.. and then sing the prarthana song.. as described by RSS, these shakas are means of mental making.. but, how far it serves the people, of its locality (leave alone the nation).. There is no goals to achieve, nor the cognizance of the practical difficulties faced by people in and around the location of shakas..
Intellectuals like you should take it to appropriate level, to redesign the shakas, so that first 10-20 minutes for the flag salute and prarthana, and then remaining forty minutes to discuss and solve problems faced by the particular locality.. this may be from simple street cleaning to arranging for drinking water when it failed.. this is not take it, do it and leave it factor.. rather, its a continuous process..
The swayamsevaks should first identify core problems faced by the people.. then discuss that among themselves.. ( not symptomatic.. rather consistent discussion is needed).. then find solutions.. then find ways to implement that solutions... how to engage the people to implement that solution. relationship handling...
So, it needs to develop the intellectual with respect to the prevailing situations, and not to discuss only theories and impractical things..
The very fact that you shifted to IT milans is a sign that shakas are not serving the society.. even IT milans need to embark on skill development, countering national threats, instead of satisfying with simple activities...
the need of the hour is to produce many Balaji Sampaths of Aidindia, in temrs of management and skills, but with national spirit.. (aidindia is a marxist org, that involved in anti-national activities)..
Are the swayamsevaks willing to move beyond emotions, and start introspecting themselves?
Please apologize me, if i have hurted anyone.. this is my opinion about sangh's capability.. (i never doubted sangh's dedication and national spirit)..
Thanks Senthil ji... I
Thanks Senthil ji...
I really appreciate your viewpoint on this. In fact Guruji had envisioned shakha to be just that, a tool for national change starting of with change at grassroots level. In fact with the size of shakhas around India it is a potent tool which I very well agree hasn't been utilized to it's best. But I also see changes in this. As I mentioned in my write-up we have been trying to bring in more sewa activities & it's heartening to see IT professionals with less time trying to spend more time on such activities. Yes we could do with more & we are indeed trying to do so and hope to achieve exactly that at every shakha level in whole of India and in this regard I hope the IT Milans become a prime case.
Namasate Santhelji,
Namasate Santhelji,
I read article fully, lot of things you tried to include in the blog. i am going Milan regularly since last couple of years. some time i get good head count and sometime less, we tried our best to pull the people in milan every sunday for 1 hr. but in spite of calling and sending reminder, head count is not increasing, so i would like, you should give some practical tips to improve, we had done lot of baidhak, ratri pravas etc...., but it seems worthless.

Thanks Harikrishnanaji.. We
Thanks Harikrishnanaji.. We need to be result oriented and objectively focussed, instead of being idealistic..
After the karnataka election, jaitley told that he had let logic take precedence over semantics.. I feel, this is what we need to imbibe everywhere.
Semantics are pre-defined process.. but, we cant strictly adhere to it always.. instead we need to allow logic for decision, and semantics as a guidelines..
there are 50,000 shakas.. if atleast 10 people per shaka, then its 5 lakh manhours daily available..
So, 5 * 30 = 150 laksh = 1.5 crore manhours available at our disposal..
Imagine if atleast 50% of these manhours is effectively utilised, there would be great amount of change that we could have brought about..
Unfortunately, there is no one even to heed to this.. what's the use of daily spending one hour collectively without any visible outputs..
Shakas are vital... The
Shakas are vital...
The Shakhas hold their own significance in imbibing a spirit of togetherness through sports and prayer. It is the face of Sangh which is visible to all.
Though much needs to be done to improve them as shape them in the new-age world, I personally believe the seniors and junior brothers, who maintain and wish to give expression to their ideas and exhange them with equally spirited minds, should have separate sessions in Shakhas or blogs.
A monthly personal meet is also not a bad idea at all at any place of mutual agreement.
Still, I am sure there are hundreds of thousands of spirited people who wish to introduce their tiny-tots and themselves only through the medium of Shakha.
How much they involve themselves in intellectual discussions later, on the ongoing developments in society and for the promotion of Indian traditions, should be left to individual Shaka and its in-charge.
