"Akhanda Bharat," an imagination which could lead to a nightmare IV
Historically
We have not understood much about the Harappa and Indus Valley civilizations. We also have recently heard about the Saraswati valley civilization. However, its time frame is not clear. However it cannot be older than 7000 years because that is the time frame of the earliest signs of human settlement found in the Indian sub continent. From 500 BC, as seen from the tax records of Darius, the Persian Emperor, Gandhara has been identified as part of the Persian territory. Around this time, Gandhara and Khambhoja were mentioned as part of “Uttarapada.” During the days of Maurya and of Emperor Ashoka, there was extended territory which included part of the current Pakistan. Some people claim that Chandragupta had conquered even “Arabasthan,” but is there historic evidence of it? In the history we read about sixteen “Janpads” in the north and numerous smaller countries in the “Dakshin Khand.”
Politically
Islamic invasion easily conquered all those warring small territories. Then came the Europeans. In 1910, the British monarch was crowned the Emperor of India. That empire included the Indian subcontinent consisting of India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The rulers of Iran had conquered Gandhara before the Christian era. Even though Myanmar is mentioned as Brahma Desh in Indian mythology, that land was never part of India. Actually, China had suzerainty on Burma a long time ago. Kailas parvath. Maansarovar and Tal Lake are also mentioned in Puranas, but those were never claimed as part of “Akhanda Bharat,” but they were never politically considered part of India. Tibet is now part of China, but even China’s claim on Tibet is out place, because Tibet always had enjoyed sovereignty over their land, until the Chinese occupation, which led to the exile of Dalai Lama. In 1947, India and Pakistan became two independent sovereign nationsl. Bangladesh became an independent sovereign nation in 1947. So did Myanmar and Sri Lanka.
Having said all that, what I need to write in conclusion is that top level leaders should seriously make analysis of what plan to say and have it examined by experts in various fields. Saying things like that we have to undo partition of India, creating Pakistan leads to grave misunderstanding in Pakistan. No wonder they pack weapons everywhere including their hats and shoes to defend themselves. China would not be happy to hear this talk of Tibet being a part of Akhanda Bharat. Nepal, Myanmar and Sri Lank also have reason to the integrity of Indian friendship and non interference. I would not argue with anyone who would say that such talk about “Akhanda Bharat” including all those foreign countries is highly aggressive, expansionist and disruptive to peaceful coexistence.
