Orphanage fire: Orissa simmers, curfew clamped

Bhubaneswar: Orissa continued to remain under a state of high alert on Tuesday morning after an orphanage run by Christian missionaries was set ablaze on Monday night, sparking violence.

Curfew was imposed in Phulbani, Baliguda, Tumbdibandh and Nuagon areas in the communally-sensitive Kandhamal district and situation remained tense in various pockets of Bargarh, Sundergarh, Koraput, Boudh and Sambalpur districts as well.

Two companies of the Rapid Action Force were rushed to Kandhamal by the Central Government and six additional companies were reported to be on their way.

At least six churches were set on fire across the state during Monday’s bandh, out of which eight were in Kandhamal.

The various district administration in the communal-sensitive areas were asked to form “peace committees” to ensure the situation remained under control.

What happened on Monday

The orphanage was located near the Khutapalli police station at Bargarh and Rajni, 20-year-old teacher and caretaker of the orphanage, was burnt alive as protestors set the building on fire.According to police, Rajni had an argument with a mob of over 700 people, all of them reported to be VHP and Bajrang Dal supporters. The mob evacuated 22 children from the orphanage and allegedly threw Rajni in to the fire. The Father of the orphanage, Eduaro Secury, tried to save her in vain and was injured.“They beat me with sticks, hands belts,” Secury told CNN-IBN.Four people were killed in riots on Christmas eve last year in Kandhamal over religious conversion of tribals in the state by Christian missionaries and re conversion by VHP activists. The VHP and the BJP observed a total bandh in the state on Monday, with religious communities including the Christian Forum condemning the attacks."One has to understand the core issue to address the problem. Religious conversion has been going on and no is stopping it,” said BJD MP Thatagat Satpathy.

I ask, “Who is responsible for the communal tensions in Orissa? Why should Christian missionaries convert Hindus?? Will the Christians keep quite if you try to convert their flock into Hinduism or Islam???”

The fault lies with the Christian missionaries. They should STOP converting Hindus into their religion.

the culprits for the

the culprits for the communal tensions are notthing but the missionaries...they can't digest the greatness, growth, culture, tradition, principles of hinduism...they always try to humiliate the feelings of hindus...they want to destroy the faith of hindus regardinging hinduism by making false..baseless comments...statements on hinduism.....those missionaries should be driven out of the country with which hinduism regains its glory......but this won't happen as long as minority admirer UPA rules the nation

Sorry all of you guys who

Sorry all of you guys who say its the Christians. We Indians and Especially we Hindus are good at pointing the fingers the ohter side. But the reality is, we have not been able to reach those needy tribals as they did.

How many Hindus across the country teach our kids Gita,Ramayan and the Priciples of eda. We are all split. We are split cos we are not united as Hinuds. We are bound to our Caste. ONLY If we come out of the casteism, can we make these missionaries run for their life. Till then, we will have to only accept all those conversions instead of blaming them.

We hindus till now practice untouchability in some form. Wait. It doesn't mean they ( Christians) don follow.Remember all Indian Christians are Converts. These preach, touch, hug and practice a caste free Christianity outside their homes. Inside their houses, their maids and servants are all untouchables only. But it never takes a front seat. So let us Unite as ONE HINDU. WE CAN MAKE THAT DIFFERENCE.

UNQOUTE

That argument is no argument at all. It is simply playing on the emotions of the crowd. Why skirt the real question?

IF, Christians are really "converting" (i.e., forcibly converting and not according to the provisions of the Constitution and the fundamental rights of every person), and

IF, Christians killed the Swami or are responsible for this violence in a direct way,

THEN, who is anyone, including the Sangh Parivar, to take the law of the country into their own hands????? There can be absolutely no reasonable justification for this sort of a behaviour.

I'd say, let them PROVE AND WIN A CASE against them, the Christians in court with all honesty befitting the Indian ethos. That would be the hallmark of a real Indian.
