Over 65,000 pilgrims and guests will visit Bhaktivedanta Manor Krishna Temple this weekend to celebrate Janmashtami – the birth of Lord Krishna.

They will pass through a new farm complex, New Gokul, which will be a blue-print for a Vedic style of ethical and sustainable farming.

The project’s aim is to change how their food is produced and the way people think about their food. The tradition of worshipping Krishna is associated with protecting cows.

“I have noticed people are beginning to care more about what they consume and how it got to their plate,” said the farm manager Stuart Coyle, “The belief in the old adage ‘you are what you eat’ shows the change in people’s awareness that they are beginning to care more how food is produced than the packaging and hype.

"At this new farm complex people will learn about new ethical techniques of farming which will take it into the next century.”

A festival highlight will include a flowered walkway through the spiritual gardens and woodlands around the lake. You will journey through the life and pastimes of Lord Krishna.

Pilgrims will then be treated to free Prasad and experience the variety of exhibitions, stalls and bazaar. The main tent will have live performances of music, dance and costume dramas throughout the afternoons and evenings.

Pranabandhu Das, the Chairman of the Temple Board said, “The festival is the show piece of our devotion to Lord Krishna and that of 1500 volunteers who have helped to make this festival such a success every year.

"With creativity and devotion, our volunteers have strived to produce yet again something different and spectacular. I am sure all our pilgrims and visitors who come will be uplifted spiritually.“
