Amarnath land row, a serious threat to basic Indian Constitution

AFTER FEELING the heat from its ally the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) headed by Mehbooba Mufti, the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) government decided to cancel the order for transferring the forest land to Sri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) for which the G Nabi Azad government had to face severe criticism from all quarters. After the valley witnessed massive violent protests and people came out to streets to register their strong protest over the land transfer issue, the J&K government wasted no time in taking back the land from the shrine board. The locals who have been getting all the support and necessary directions from Pakistan based organisations to destabilise the peace and calm prevailing in the Kashmir Valley, made the transfer of a land piece to SASB a matter of their pride and state identity. The land which was asked and given as per the directive of an order given to the state government by the state High Court for utilising it for the use of visiting Hindu pilgrims to Amarnath. The SASB officials wanted it to be utilised for erecting temporary tents and makeshift languors in which the stewardess serve food and tea to the visiting devotees.

Now the Amarnath land row will be politicised by various organisations and the nation might see a communal flare-up before the next general elections which is something to worry about. The leaders of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) already called for a nation wide bandh on Thursday (July 3). The impact of Bharat bandh was such that trains were halted at several places across the nation and tyres of several vehicles were deflated in order to protest against the decision of J&K government. The entire India looked helplessly when the real problem lies in the valley. Several strong statements were also issued by these Hindu leaders in order to ignite some communal passion which I feel would only push back the economy of the nation.

Instead of making nuisance on the roads of Delhi, Mumbai and other metro cities of the nation, these leaders should be asked to march towards the Kashmir Valley. Kashmir has only one solution - to get rid of all the problems. That solution is to get the ratio of population right. Till then there will only be one community in absolute majority and the problem will persist like cancer. Kashmir needs surgery. Time has come to divide Kashmir in two states. The region of Laddakh and Jammu should be made one state and Kashmir, which include the Valley region be made another state. While the state of Jammu and Laddakh be ruled by the elected government, the state of Kashmir be put under the Central rule.

Time has come to shun appeasement policies and the government must become sincere in its efforts in rehabilitating thousands of Kashmiri Pandits in the state of Jammu and Laddakh where they should be given homes and jobs to earn their livelihood. The real problem of Kashmir is its different constitution and the Union government especially the Hindu leaders of India must make some consensus over removal of article 370 from Kashmir.

And the bigger question which millions of Hindus failed to understand when the Muslims can be given big lands to establish their Haj houses in every state and get all facilities during their pilgrimage then what fault have the Hindus committed that their local Shrine Board which operates in Kashmir, was not given a small piece of land that could be utilised during the Yatra time which again is for a very limited period of a month or two as for most of the time the area remains under the cover of snow following a high altitude.

The Kashmiri Muslims must have shown some generosity and respect for the religious sentiments of Hindus coming over there and giving business to them during the Amarnath Yatra period. The violent protests that have taken the entire nation as hostage, making the Yatra impossible. Even those who wanted to visit the famous Vaishno Devi Shrine in Katra near Jammu have been left stranded at several places.
