Hindus don’t have monopoly on the nation : RSS

Shillong (Meghalaya): Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Wednesday called for unity among the different communities of the nation.

"The diversity of communities of the nation calls upon its people to realise the unity. Efforts should be made to root out the conflicts existing among the communities," RSS general secretary Mohanji Bhagwat said. (Hindus are always ready to root out conflicts with other communities, but these communities are not ready to resolve conflicts!)

Stating that the word 'Hindu' is being 'misunderstood' and 'misinterpreted', Bhagwat said, "Hindu community is not the only community that has monopoly on the nation's culture." (How Shri. Bhagwat can say that Hindus don't have monopoly on Nation's culture. This land is known as Hindusthan & the culture of this country is nothing but the Hindu Culture. Hindus have tradition of lacs of years, right from Satyayuga in this land of Hindus, so they have monopoly on thisNation's culture!)

He said the people of the nation should recognise the glorious culture and tradition of the country.

RSS, he said, has been backing every effort intended to protect one's identity.

He called upon the people to respect every individual and every society.

Sir,
We would like to draw you attention to the news
http://www.expressindia.com/latest-news/Hindus-dont-have-monopoly-on-the...

We would like to point out that your reporting of the speech of Shri. Mohanji Bhagwat, general secretary of RSS, is misleading and he has been misquoted in the news.

His actual sentence is
“We are inheritors of the glorious hoary culture. Actually, though the world calls it a Hindu culture, it is not a monopoly of the Hindus. it is for all human beings. It is actually “Manavata” – ‘humanitarian view of life’ – live and let live.”
[The text of his speech is available at
http://rssonnet.blogspot.com/2009/02/shri-mohanjis-visit-to-shillong.html]

While in your news he has been misquoted as

Bhagwat said “Hindu community is not the only community that has monopoly on the nation’s culture.”
We think it is misleading in the sense that Shri. Mohanji Bhagwat has used the word ‘Hindu’ as a cultural identity of the nation, and said that the content of this culture is universal and beneficial to all humanity. Your misquoted news and the Heading based on it identify the word Hindu with some community, thus creating all unnecessary confusion and comments.

We hope you will be more careful in publishing the reports of speeches RSS office bearers.
