U.S. Presidential candidate Barack Obama

Hindu
priests of a major temple of Lord Hanuman, in  India's capital city New
Delhi, offered prayers on Tuesday (June 24) seeking victory for Barack
Obama, the US presidential candidate of the Democratic Party.

The
priests of Sankat Mochan temple invoked the deity on Tuesday,
considered auspicious for offering prayers to Lord Hanuman, to bless
Obama for the upcoming presidential elections in America.

During the prayers Caroline Saurce, the Indian representative of Obama was also present.

The
priests would give her a gold idol of the deity to be presented to
Barack Obama after consecrating it at the end of 11 days prayers.

"After
performing prayers according to Hindu rituals the idol would be
consecrated and then it would be handed over to her (Caroline Saurce,
Barack Obama's India representative) who would carry it to America,"
said Brij Mohan Bhama, a Hanuman devotee.

Obama was in news recently for keeping the idol of Lord Hanuman as a lucky charm.

A
photograph posted recently on Time's White House Photo of the Day
collection shows that the belongings of 46-year-old senator from
Illinois comprised a miniature idol of a monkey God, visibly lord
Hanuman.
