Papua New Guinea is now 94% Christian. Yet missionaries still arrive in droves. Why? For the simple reason that they are now importing their denominational bickering into the country. Born in Albania in 1910, Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, became a nun and a missionary to India. She subsequently changed her name to Teresa. Her work among the poor in Calcutta attracted the world wide attention culminating with a Nobel Peace Price in 1979. [20] Yet her work has been criticised as not one based on the alleviation of suffering but on the morbid theological celebration of pain and suffering. Christopher Hitchens outlined these rather disturbing facts in his book The Missionary Position: Mother Teresa in Theory and Practice (1995):

Dr. Robin Fox, editor of the medical journal The Lancet, visited Mother Teresa's operation in Calcutta in 1994. He reported that he was very "disturbed" by what he saw. There was little anesthesia to be seen and a near total neglect of medically sound diagnosis. Why were not the sisters given proper training in simple diagnosis as well as in managing pain? Because according to Dr. Fox, Mother Teresa "preferred providence to planning; her rules are designed to prevent any drift towards materialism."[21]

Mary Loudon, a volunteer in Calcutta, had even worse things to say about Mother Teresa's operation. She reported seeing in the Home for the Dying more than a hundred men and women all dying and not been given much medical care. Pain killers used do not go beyond aspirins. The nuns were rinsing the needles used for drips with plain tap water. When Loudon asked them why they were not sterilizing the needles, the reply was simply they had no time and that there was "no point". She also recounted the case of a fifteen year old boy who was dying because of a treatable kidney complaint. All that was needed was a cab fare to take the boy to a proper hospital. But Mother Teresa's peons refused to do so, for "if they do it for one, they had to do it for everybody."[22]

Susan Sheilds, who worked for almost ten years as a member of Mother Teresa's order, subsequently left the movement because of the atrocious negligence she witnessed there. The order's obsession with poverty means that the nuns and volunteers works under conditions of austerity, rigidity and harshness. Due to Mother Teresa's fame, Ms. Sheilds reported that the charity had around US$50 million in their bank account in the US. The donations kept pouring in, yet little of these were used to procure medicine or to provide better health care for the suffering. The nuns were rarely allowed to spend money on the poor they are trying to help. [23]

To Mother Teresa, like all other missionaries, spiritual well being over-rides everything else. As Ms. Sheilds reported, "Mother Teresa taught her nuns how to secretly baptised those who were dying. Sisters were to ask each person in danger of death if he wanted a 'ticket to heaven'. An affirmative reply was to mean consent to baptism. The sister was then to pretend she was just cooling the person's forehead with a wet cloth, while in fact she was baptizing him, saying quietly the necessary words. Secrecy was important so that it would not come to be known that Mother Teresa's sisters were baptising Hindus and Muslims."[24]

Perhaps a poignant summary of Mother Teresa's mission can be seen in a story recounted by herself. A dying man was in terrible pain. She told him "You are suffering like Christ on the cross. So Jesus must be kissing you." To which the man replied: "Then please tell Jesus to stop kissing me." [25]

Japan answers Christianity

In his letter to Tokugawa shogunate , Prince Maurits of Holland wrote to Japanese emperor that the true object of the Catholics in Japan was the fomentation of political dissension and civil strife.

Japanese Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu once tolerated the presence of Christian missionaries, but he soon concluded they were a potential menace to Japan. His advisors warned him that Christian doctrine enjoined the faithful to obey their spiritual leaders (the Jesuits), not their temporal leader (the Shogun). Ieyasu became further irritated against the Christians by intrigues involving the Christian daimyo Lord Arima in Kyushu and by the discovery that some of Tokugawa's own household were Christians.

The shifting political winds and aggressive missionaries finally tested the limits of Tokugawa Hidetada's patience. On January 27, 1614, he issued an edict that prohibited the practice of Christianity in Japan. Although the edict was not strictly enforced, it had a chilling effect on missionaries and Christians alike, many of whom survived only by being discreet. Two years later, Shogun Tokugawa restricted all foreign merchants, except the Chinese, to the ports of Nagasaki and Hirado and restricted foreign residents to Edo, Kyoto, and Sakai. A dramatic example of the vigorous and determined campaign to root out Christian missionaries and their followers occurred in 1621, when a Japanese junk transporting two Spanish Franciscans was intercepted off the Formosa coast and escorted to Hirado. Both friars were executed on orders from the Shogun, along with the entire ship's crew and every Christian prisoner in the jails of Suzuta and Nagasaki.

He ordered the Nagasaki commissioners to investigate anyone suspected of being a Christian and offered a reward to anyone who revealed the location of a foreign priest. Foreign ships arriving in Japan were put under armed guard and thoroughly searched for foreign priests. Any foreigner who helped a foreign priest or any other prohibited foreigner would be imprisoned.

The shogun's edicts of 1634 and 1635 were similar to the first, but the 1635 edict was more specific in its prohibitions .

Beginning in 1569, the Shimabara Peninsula, which stretches southeastward from Nagasaki, and the Amakusa Islands to the south of the peninsula became home to thousands of Christian converts thanks to the missionary activities of Father Luis d'Almeida and the supportive efforts of the Christian daimyo Konishi Yukinaga

Masuda Shiro, emerged as a rebel leader. In October 1637, Christians from Shimabara and the nearby Amakusa islands launched a rebellion. Armed with swords, rakes and rocks directed much of their anger at Shimabara Castle. They burned the town of Shimabara to the ground, killing one of the governors and more than thirty noblemen.

Soon after they word of the rebellion spreading in Shimabara Lord Matsukura Shigemasa and the Nagasaki daimyo hurriedly set out from Edo to meet the challenge. Since Nagasaki was designated a Crown city, Lord Terazawa Katakata quickly marshaled reinforcements to guard the suburbs. Over 40,000 men of Chikugo camped in the hills around Nagasaki under orders to defend the city and keep its inhabitants under surveillance. No one could move around freely without offering documents to prove their residence. Lord Terazawa also dispatched nine noblemen with 3,000 samurai from northern Kyushu to suppress the Amakusa rebels and punish the ringleaders. The rebels decimated Lord Terazawa's small force two days later, killing 2,800 men in a pitched battle fought on December 27.
During their rampage, the rebel Christians destroyed Japanese religious symbols and replaced them with Christian emblems and took control of the abandoned Hara Castle at the southern tip of the peninsula. Within the castle's massive walls guarded by three moats, they assembled a force of 35,000 men, under the banner of the Christian cross. In capturing Hara, they burned the daimyo's rice stores. Soon after the rebellion began, Christian converts from Amakusa and Shimabara began openly proclaiming their adherence to Christianity. Many carried banners emblazoned with Portuguese inscriptions such as "Louvada seia o Santissimo Sacramento" (Praised be the most Holy Sacrament) and "San Tiago." This physical evidence confirmed their "treason" to Japan.

On January 4, while the rebels were still enjoying their brief "victory," ten ninja warriors arrived at Hara from Omu Province. Every night for the next two weeks these veterans of the Battle of Sekigahara secretly entered the castle to gather intelligence and map the castle's defenses. Fifteen days later they sent a detailed report to the shogun in Edo. Tokugawa Iemitsu sent an army of over 10,000 men to lay siege to the rebel stronghold at Hara Castle. Rebels defiantly taunted their attackers and managed to inflict heavy losses on government forces without losing a man.

The roads and fields around Hara Castle were littered with countless men who died from exposure to the bitter cold winter weather, many of whom had never fired a shot. Rebel raids, such as the deadly assault on February 3 which killed over 2,000 Hizen warriors, the governor and many noblemen, only compounded the attackers' misery.

Government forces decisively crushed the rebellion on Amakusa by mid-February. Fifty diehard rebels crossed the narrow strait to Shimabara and joined with the rebels in Hara Castle for the final showdown. Beginning on March 10, a combined force of nearly 200,000 warriors under the command of Lord Itakura Shigemasa assembled on the plains of Shimabara: 30,000 from Chikuzen, 40,000 from Higo; 25,000 from Chikugo, 2,700 from Bungo, 3,000 from Amakusa, 5,000 from Omura, 3,000 from Hirado, and 500 men belonging to Lord Terazawa Katakata.

After taking Hara Castle, government forces systematically slaughtered everyone they encountered. Not a single rebel survived the Battle at Hara Castle except those who fled, and they were later hunted down and executed. Masuda Shiro was captured and decapitated and his head was sent to Nagasaki and exhibited. The ferocity of the final assault is evident from the 10,800 rebel Christian heads taken in the final two days of fighting and placed in the fields beneath the castle walls.

The violence of the rebellion and the setbacks encountered by the shogun's forces stunned the bakufu in Edo. Tokugawa Iemitsu saw the hand of foreign Christian adversaries in the Shimabara Rebellion. He now feared not only Christianity, but the possibility that Spain would try to duplicate through force of arms and conversion in Japan what it had already achieved in the Philippines.

Determined to end the Portuguese trade, Tokugawa Iemitsu resolved to prohibit Christianity in Japan and issued an edict that called for a policy of strict national seclusion. No foreign ships were allowed to enter Japanese ports, and no Japanese citizen was permitted to leave or reenter Japan.

It is in South America that the missionaries are at their most destructive. During the conquest of the "New World", beginning in the 15th century, Catholic priests and friars, accompanied the invading armies of Spain and Portugal. In Guatemala, the leadership of the Summer Institute of Linguistics had a close relationship with the former military dictator Efrain Rios-Montt, a fellow evangelical Christian and an ordained minister of the Gospel Outreach/Verbo Evangelical Church. Rios-Montt has been implicated in the genocide of the indigenous Mayans and political opponents in Guatemala during his rule in the early 1980's-with more than 70,000 people reportedly murdered by his army. His scorched earth policy (or in his own words "scorched communist policy") against guerilla insurgents was implemented indescriminately. More than 400 Mayan villages were burned to the ground-their properties, crops and lifestock, destroyed. Mayans suspected of supporting the insurgents were tortured and murdered, their women and girls raped. In the midst of all these atrocities, Rios-Montt was regularly giving broadcast sermons on morality! Of course, the fact that Rios-Montt was a Christian was more important to our missionary friends that the fact that he was a mass murderer. The relationship between the general and SIL was so cosy that he once had his henchmen serve as escorts for the SIL

But the worst of the mission linked atrocities happenned in Brazil. Granted that the main culprits of the genocide were functionaries of the grossly misnamed Indian Protection Service, the missionaries were at least partly responsible for these. In the 1980's the Brazilian attorney general's office began an investigation into the atrocities committed by the agency over a period of thirty years. It's findings were shocking.

Even i love her. Only thing you need to know. Many people, example Swami Lakxmanananda comes in that category. Once mother Teresa got fame in kolkata, missionaries aided her to help people (very large amount). In non-christian good people case, they cant get that much huge money all the time. Its a very tough thing for Hindu due to lake of money. I am ready to service to poor. For money i am earning now, i am able to feed only on family(other than my family).
For your information i am spending 11,000Rs every month for a Christian family, They are struggling for life(Health , job everything). I never told them to Convert, but i cleared their doubts on Hinduism. They came to know Hindu scripts stands for Dharma. Dharma is true God. And no God kills people for not worshiping Him.
