Death on Indian Roads.

Death on Indian Roads.

I am really sad, one of my friends died in a road accident. In last couple of years I had lost many of my friends and fellow swayamsevak's to these accidents. All these people were young educated people, who were either the sole bread winner of their family, or were students. When India boasts about its young population, how we can compensate for this gross national loss. There is a lot of talk about terrorism; it is unfortunate that people have lost their lives due to terrorist attacks. But I want to talk about another kind of terrorism, the terrorism perpetrated by the corrupt state against its subjects.

Yearly thousands of people lose their lives in these terrible road accidents, shattering their families, there young dreams. The sad part is that there is no cognizance on part of general public and our national conscience for this appalling loss. Making our roads safe is not part of the agenda of any of the political parties. We have lost leaders like Sri Rajesh Pilot and Sri Sahib Singh Verma to name a few on our unsafe roads.

It is just foolish to believe that the accident will not happen to me, it can happen to anyone driving on the road. Furthermore there is nothing we are going to gain by blaming our corrupt system.  The urge to change needs to come from within our society.

We need to revamp the system as a whole:
 >the traffic rules needs to be part of our educational curriculum.
>We need to develop a culture of traffic sense among our people.  The civil society in various cities should collectively revolt/react against the apathy of the system. I will add the civil society should go a step ahead and make it sure that the rules are implemented in spirit and action.
>Children’s needs to be taught about the traffic rules in the schools.
>Helmets need to be made compulsory. Speed Limits need to be implemented more vigorously.
>Those breaking the traffic rules must be severely fined.
There is no immediate solution but there is no explanation for the pain that the families of the victims of road accidents have to bear.  It is impossible to console the aging father of a young boy who had died in a traffic accident.
