Separatist leader and Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani has urged people to actively participate in the Census to put an end to the much-talked about demographic supremacy of a particular community, the daily Rising Kashmir  has reported.

Scheduled to commence from May 15, the Census is the biggest such exercise undertaken anywhere in the world. 
 
Geelani said his party would launch a massive awareness programme, educating people about the right approach to be adopted during Census.

"There should be no hesitation on part of the Muslim community throughout the state to record their names during the Census. However, people should follow certain guidelines, which we will announce during our awareness programme," Geelani was quoted as saying in the daily.

"I appeal Muslims of Kathua, Gool, Bani, Akhnoor and other parts of the state to actively participate in the process. Their participation would show the clear picture of Muslim population and end the demographic supremacy of other communities in these areas," he told the daily.

According to Gilani, the Census officials don't enter the Muslim-populated areas in the Jammu region deliberately to show increased Hindu Majority in the region.

 "The Muslims in the region should actively participate in the Census," he said.
