A group of IT experts from US have claimed recently that the Indian EVMs are not tamper-proof and asked the Election Commission to explore other forms of voting that provide "transparency" and security.

The academicians and experts wrote the letter within days of a heated debate between IT experts and officials from ECI regarding the machines.

"Although India's EVMs have a simple design that avoids many of the problems found in other direct-recording electronic (DRE) voting machines, they are still vulnerable to a wide range of attacks," the academicians and IT experts said in the letter.

"New classes of attacks have been discovered since the time the EVMs were introduced that render many of their security assumptions obsolete. Therefore, we conclude, after listening to the arguments of the panelists, that India's EVMs do not today provide security, verifiability, or transparency adequate for confidence in election results," it said

Among signatories to the letter are Prof Ben Adida (Harvard University), Dr Josh Benaloh (Microsoft Research), Prof Matt Blaze (University of Pennsylvania), Bill Cheswick (AT&T Shannon Labs), Prof Russell A Fink (University of Maryland, Baltimore County), Prof Ian Goldberg (University of Waterloo), Dr Joseph Lorenzo Hall (University of California, Berkeley/Princeton University / ACCURATE), Harri Hursti (CTO, Clear Ballot Group), and Neal McBurnett (Election Audits).

"As experts in electronic voting technology and computer security, we have significant concerns about the security, verifiability, and transparency of India's EVMs," they wrote after attending an industry conference on this issue in Washington on Monday.

"We urge the Election Commission to explore other forms of voting that are suitable to the Indian context and that do provide adequate transparency, verifiability, and security," they said.

MY COMMENTS:

Not only they, many competent technical persons already proved that EVM is not temper proof and no safety measure has been taken into account!

As all common citizen were assuming, then also why govt.(congress) shud not remove it?

Software system can not provide the hard proof! People shud not believe such voting like important system , from which the govt. is formed!

Opposition is silent as probably power is shared! Is this country is being looted by ruling and opposition jointly or the top brass of opposition parties r threatened or purchased ? In assembly or in parliament, opposition parties r just acting to fool the citizens that they r fighting for them! Practically, we are finding that they r not serious in any of their move or protest!

Just evaluate the result of protest, NOTHING is changed! The same is happening as congress wants and why they do so? Because now election is not dependant on electorate!
It is all pre-programmed, hacked ! It is such that after a certain amount of vote, all votes will be transferred to the party for whom' win , it is programmed!

In this regard, actually political parties shud have raised voice but fishingly they r silent!! Only from third party, non associated with any party is raising this issue! why?  Because of nationalism, because of our democratic right! To save the country from raping by the corrupted political parties!!

In the recent,  for Telengana by-election in AP old ballot box was used and it was that congress did not win a single seat. Are we getting any hints from that result?

WHY ARE WE NOT GOING BACK TO EARLIER PAPER BALLOT SYSTEM, WHERE THE VARIFIABILITY , RELIABILITY ARE AVAILABLE?
