I think we need to promote Sanskrit as well as English.Everthing now geting globalised,if we are behind in science and technology we wont survive..So please promote english,now it almost became global language.

Its very sad that we can't live without English even after so many years of what we call our 'Independence'! We are still dependent on English!!

I agree that English has become a global language and we need it to communicate at the international level. But, why do we need English to communicate even amongst ourselves? We have so many languages in India, including hindi, then why cant we communicate in those languages? Why cant we get a job if we dont know english? What is the need to learn english if we are in a job or business which has nothing to do with internation trade or international communication? Even for this forum, all of us are indians and still we are communicating in english!! Even the appeals to respect our indian languages are being made in English!! How do we expect that the use of English will be reduced and our languages will become more relevant?

I do not oppose learning english as a language. But, I am against giving it unnecessary importance in everything. We ourselves are responsible for that. Everywhere we use and promote it. Why cant we have the names of our shops and the name plates on our houses written in hindi or any other indian language? What is the need to have all the signboards on the road to be written in english? What is the name to write the name of every railway railway station in english along with hindi? We can just have the name of a railway station written in hindi and the language of that particular state. For example, the name for Chennai railway station should only be in tamil and hindi. what is the need to use english everywhere?

I have friends in countries like Japan, Macedonia, France etc. No country other than india promotes english unnecessarily.

I also do not agree that those who come from a non-english medium education, cant speak or write or understand english well. I had my primary education in a hindi medium school and still I can communicate very well with americans or british or any one else. In fact, I work as a freelance writer and regualrly write a lot in english. If studying in our own language meant that one will be unable to communicate or work in english, I could never have done what I am doing in my profession.

What do the English educated know about Vidhya Bharati to advise? Facts are there for those who wish to see: econimic prosperity, technological mastery, global dominance, global connectivity, etc. are there by countries such as Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Germany where there is little or no English! In Korea there is not a single sign board in English; Japanese can hardly speak English. In Germany even Engineering education is in German. Yet, these people are heard and understood by the English-speaking countries! It is a big lie that English = upward mobility. Moreover, globally, only 6% speak English; More people speak Mandarin or Hindi. In India only 1% speak English (as per the National Knowledge Commission). That "we need English" is the mantra of the frogs in the well. Wherever English has taken root, it has wiped out the native languages and cultures (ex.: USA's native Indian languages, Australia). It is very difficult travel in Europe if all you know is English. Indians must get over this falsehood that English is global. It simply isn't. Vidya Bharati should focus on Hindi, Samskrit, and a regional language. Software (IT) is not the nirvana for India.

Yes, We should educate our kids in all languages. I feel we should even promote our sanskrit language. We should make the same as a mandatory subject in schools.

English is the language of the British “invaders” which became capable of attracting parents to send their children to convents.English schools are earning big money. Vivekananda conquered the world through English.ISCKON spreading “Krishna culture thoughts” in English.Though Sanskrit was the language of the Indus Valley civilization,now English as global language,became inevitable for all to get jobs and livelihood.

What about to improve sanskrit and Hindi. RSS have the will power and force both to make any indian language useful world wide. Can you answer how many years took english to reach in its current position? What were the factors which were responsible to upgrade English as a language of the World? Can't we wait and work hard for betterment of Sanskrit which is more technical and scientific language of the world? Can't we force the world on our terms? World follows those who make their own way? There is no future of wood piece which is flowing in the direction of flow of water. If we surrender then what will be the difference between Nehru and us?
