Ban Cong, DMK and RJD too

B D Narayankar

IT’S
A matter of great concern that while Congress-led central government
has miserably failed to curb terrorism, it has trained guns shamelessly
on Bajrang Dal. The government has started working towards imposing ban
on the nationalistic Bajrang Dal.

Making comparisons between
Bajrang Dal and SIMI is uncalled for and is mere foolishness. SIMI’s
agenda is to spread terror all over India, which is clearly reflected
in their leadership being indicted in countless terror attacks. Banning
Bajrang Dal is altogether different as it has not been involved in any
terror attacks.

If Bajrang Dal is to be banned, then Congress
should also be banned for killing Sikhs in 1980s. We should also ban
some mosques, madrassas and churches, because some of their members are
terrorists and murderers. Besides, banning Bajrang Dal will not solve
the problem. In fact, it will provoke it’s members, forcing them to
take up arms.

Shouldn’t Karunanidhi’s DMK, an ally of UPA,
banned? In fact, Karunanidhi can easily be bracketed as an
international terrorist for giving LTTE militants a chance to use India
to launch attacks on neighboring Sri Lanka. He not only harboured LTTE
militants, but also funded them.

What about Union Railway
Minister Lalu Prasad and Mulayam Singh Yadav, who openly support SIMI
activities and protested the ban on it. Both leaders are directly or
indirectly supporting anti-nationals, who are involved in spreading
terrorism in the country. Thus, UPA government doesn’t have any right
to call any organization as communal and seek its ban.

In last
15 years, almost all political parties have ruled the country and none
of them have addressed the root cause of terrorism. Islamic jihad
taught in madrassas has spread terrorism in the country. Madrassas and
other places where terrorism is spread should be uprooted to end
terrorism like it was done in US and Britain, where madrassa education
has been banned.

Blaming entire organisation for wrong doing
also is inappropriate. It is illogical to hold a party responsible for
wrong doings. Can you imagine anybody blaming entire Congress for
burning down Chauri-Chaura police station in pre-independence days?
Likewise, entire Bajrang Dal cannot be blamed for the crime committed
by few. More so, until and unless the crime is not proved.

Where is Sangh leadership hiding on Terrorism?

I am quite saddened by the response of our Sangh Parivar leaders in standing up for the issues that are near and dear to the hearts of common Indians i.e. Democracy, Terrorism, Caste Divide, Enviornment etc.

Our leaders are great in standing up for minor issues such as Ram Sethu and Amarnath Land but they seem to missing the forest for the trees.

Recent terrorism incidents provide perfect opportunity to unite the whole nation behind Sangh Parivar and BJP. Right now, Sangh Parivar leader should have declared enough is enoug and we want the Sonia Gandhi's government to resign. They could have launched a huge rally in Delhi. By mobilizing all of their resources, they could have launched a massive rally to 10 Janpath, to force UPA government to take action.

Common man is angry over this issue. Every section of the society, including so called "seculars" will have supported sangh parivar's demand to make government take action or get out.

It could be the launch of election campaign to get rid of Sonia Gandhi's government.

But alas, our leadership leaves us so much to desire ...

Sometimes, I think RSS leadership is similar to UPA Government ... despite mounting criticism of RSS or terrorism in India, there is no action forthcoming. RSS can't seem to get its act together in getting media behind it and UPA can't seem to fight off terrorism.

Amarnath land row victory is the victory like KARGILL war, it is not on the other foes but against the foes of our own country ,rather on hindusm

this is highly ridiculous that we people in HINDUSTAN had to fought a war for MAHADEV i.e bhole BABA for a patch of land i.e . the political parties like congress and janta dal are protesting initially on RAM now on MAHADEV.

if this persist the time will definately play a game against such brutual politicians,

BJP Govt to renovate Hindu temples in Karnataka

By Team Mangalorean, Bangalore

BANGALORE, July 16, 2008: The Government has decided to renovate 20,000 temples, which are in dilapidated condition. The Muzrai Department would renovate temples with the financial support of Non-Resident Indians and philanthropists, Minister for Muzrai and Housing S.N. Krishnaiah Setty told presspersons on Wednesday.

There were no archaks in a majority of the temples and daily poojas were being conducted in about 20,000 temples belonged to the Muzrai Department in the State. A few temples have been generating an annual income of Rs. 100 crore, the minister said.

With the involvement of film stars, sportspersons and NRIs, a campaign would be launched soon in Bangalore to raise funds for renovation works of temples. The local citizens and leaders have been asked to submit detail estimate plans containing information about temple history, location, funds required for renovation, to Deputy Commissioners and tahsildars in all districts. Out of 34,000 temples, only 185 temples have sufficient funds for maintenance.

Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa would lead a delegation to participate in the U.S.-based Association of Kannada Kootas of Americas Kannada conference in Chicago, US. The meet will commence from August 29. The delegation would appeal to the NRIs from Karnataka to donate funds for taking up renovation works of temples, the Minister said.

Hundis (donation boxes)

The department has decided to electronic "hundis" in all temples. The first electronic "hundi" will be established at the Banashankari temple in the City soon. Tenders would be invited to set up such "hundis". The cost of each "hundi" would be around Rs. 1.5 lakh, he said.

On encroachment of lands belonged to temples, the minister said a squad would be constituted to recover such lands.

Rs. 80 crore Master Plan to renovate Kukke temple

BANGALORE: The State Government has prepared a Rs. 80 crore Master Plan for renovation of the Kukke Subramanya temple located in rural village called Subramanya in the Western Ghats of the State, about 105 km from the coastal town Mangalore.

The temple is one of the famous pilgrimage sites in the state. A sum of Rs. 80 crore of the temple funds would be utilized for renovation work of the temple, construction of guesthouse, commercial complex, booking counter, bus-stand and other facilities. The work would be launched soon and would be completed in a year, Minister for Muzrai S. N. Krishnaiah Setty told presspersons on Wednesday.

Kukke Subramanya is on the bank of river Kumaradhara. There are quite a few guest houses at Kukke. The funds would be utilized for construction of more guest houses for providing accommodation for visiting pilgrims from the other parts of the country and abroad, he said.

Kukke Subramanya was in the news last year when cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, Robin Utthappa and film celebrities such as Shilpa Shetty and the Kapoor family visited the temple.

Tirupathi Temple

A decision has also been taken to construct a 1,000 room guesthouse on 7.5 acres, land adjoining the Lord Venkateswara Temple at Tirumala in Tirupathi, for providing accommodation for pilgrims visiting the temple from Karnataka.

Mr Setty said that the land dispute between the State Government and the Andhra Pradesh Government has been resolved. An agreement would be signed soon between two states for construction of the guesthouse. Thousands of devotees have come forward to donate funds for the construction of the guesthouse which would be built in a span of two years, the Minister said.
The land dispute had come to the surface over the past decade after the Karnataka Government stated that the land belonged to it and the Andhra Pradesh Government claimed that the land was taken over by that Government in 1958.

The 7.5-acre land was donated by the then Maharaja of Mysore and after the formation of the State the land became a Government property. Over the last few years, the State Government has given a narrow piece of this land to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams to widen the road adjoining the Lord Venkateshwara Temple.

Note: Kartanaka Government manages all the Hindu Temples in Karnataka and therefore they are also responsible for upkeep of temples. For this work, no Tax money is being used, all the fund for this project will be generated from Temples itself. This will help boost tourism economy of the state.

Rashtriya Sewa Bharati : Bringing about positive attitudinal change

It was election time. High pitch election fever was everywhere. Money was profusely distributed throughout that constituency. Election agents of a candidate belonging to a particular political party arrived at Mangaleshwari Nagar, a remote village in East Coast Road of Ramanathapuram district in Tamil Nadu, with boxes of fresh currency notes of 500 and 1,000 denominations to distribute among people of this particular village. One currency note was available for each voter to get his support. But, to those agents’ surprise, the people of this village categorically refused to accept money from them.

“Let the Grama Sevika of Sewa Bharati come, you speak to her”, was the reply from the people of the village.

The agents patiently waited for hours. The Grama Sevika reached the village as per her regular programme. She was informed about the presence of agents with currency notes.

“We will cast our vote to an honest and patriotic leader of high spirit, not for money”, the Sewa Bharati volunteer roared. This was echoed by all the villagers. This incident forced the agents to return with dejection. One of our national problem was defeated in a nice and simple manner by the Sewa Bharati volunteer, by commanding the trust of the people by her relentless work and service mindset. The Grama Sevika guided the entire village and she was along with the people who stood as an example for the entire nation.

This is just a glimpse of the positive change being brought about in remote areas of the country by the volunteers of the Sewa Bharati. The Sangh swayamsevaks today runs more than one lakh similar service projects in remote areas of the country. Only under the banner of Sewa Bharati more than 50,000 service projects are run at about 23,000 places. It includes 13,786 projects of education, 10,908 of health care, 17,560 of social welfare and 7,452 self-reliance projects. It does not include the rural development projects.

“This change did not come in one day. It took about three decades for us to win the trust of the people. Today our workers are serving people from birth (Matrichhaya) to death (crematorium). Self-respect is being infused among the people of Sewa Bastis by starting various projects of self-reliance. Not only the children, but youths and adults also are being made literate. During the birth centenary year of Shri Guruji, Sewa Bharati, Delhi made more than 12,000 people literate just in three months. Now this project has been adopted by various other Prants with the objective to make every countryman literate,” says Shri Sitaram Kedilaya, Akhil Bharatiya Sewa Pramukh of RSS.

Before the formation of Sewa Bharati in 1979, the then RSS Sarsanghachalak Shri Balasaheb Deoras addressed a gathering of uniformed swayamsevaks at Ambedkar Stadium, Delhi on Varsh Pratipada Day (April 8, 1978) and formally called upon them to go to different sections of the society to start constructive activities among them. He directed the swayamsevaks to raise self-respect of the socially and economically deprived people so that the whole Hindu society could stand united and foil the game plans of the anti-national forces. It was a new direction to the swayamsevaks who till then were busy in running mostly the daily shakhas.

Before this call by the late Balasaheb Deoras, several swayamsevaks had individually started some service projects at certain places and their results were very encouraging. The organised initiative of service activities began only after this call of Bala Sahebji who himself inaugurated a Samskar Kendra in Delhi, later. Some experiments of service had also begun in southern parts of the country, especially in Karnataka, with the inspiration of the late Yadavrao Joshi, but there was no concrete initiative in northern parts of the country. It was Shri Vishnuji, presently the patron of Madhya Kshetra Sewa Bharati, who started a coaching centre at Sangam Park, a Valmiki Basti of Delhi, and practically materialised the call of the then Sarsanghachalak in the beginning of 1979. By the end of 1979 Sewa Bhartai was formally formed and registered in Delhi. It was the beginning of an organised service initiative on the part of the swayamsevaks. Gradually, this work took roots in other states also and various kinds of activities, as per the requirements of the bastis, were added to it.

In the year 2002, a national body, namely the Rashtriya Sewa Bharati, was formed to provide an umbrella cover to all the service activities being run by various wings of Sewa Bharati all over the country. Besides these projects of the Rashtriya Sewa Bharati the VHP runs 34,910 projects, Vidya Bharati runs 9,682 projects, Deendayal Research Institute runs 1,000 projects, Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram runs 6,503 projects, Bharat Vikas Parishad runs 1,050 projects, Rashtra Sevika Samiti runs 404 projects, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad runs 168 projects and Akhil Bharatiya Drishtihin Kalyan Sangh runs 66 projects.

Sewa Bharati is committed to weed out the difference of superior and inferior from the society and different kinds of activities are being carried out by its volunteers to achieve this objective. This year on Republic Day when the whole country was busy in watching the live telecast of Republic Day celebration from Rajpath, New Delhi, the Sewa Bharati activists organised padyatras in 11 Sewa Bastis of Delhi. The padyatras were led by 18 senior saints. Prior to it, Swami Satyamitranand Giri, Swami Parmannda Maharaj, Didi Maa Sadhvi Ritambhara, Swami Raghvanand, Baba Prakash Shah, Mahant Naval Kishore, Mahamandaleshwar Ramate Jogi, Sant Nityanandji, Swami Divyanand Maharaj of Gita Niketan, Haridwar and Sadhvi Samvidanand also visited the Sewa Bastis in Delhi. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar also attended a function organised at Gannor (Haryana). The visits of saints in Sewa Bastis strengthened the unity of Hindu society and a large number of people who were being misguided by the alien cultures returned home.

Besides various projects of health, education and Bal Samskar the Sewa Bharati volunteers adopted terrorism-affected children of Jammu & Kashmir. Over 70 of such children presently stay at Gopaldham project of Sewa Bharati at Bhopra, Ghaziabad. Sewa Bharati has made complete arrangement for rehabilitation of these children, who were handed over to it by the Army about three years back.

In order to instill the spirit of nationalism into the children of Sewa Bastis the Sewa Bharati volunteers organise Bharatmata Poojan on Republic Day every year. Lakhs of children participate in these functions. Sewa Bharati also utilised the tradition of Kanyapoojan in north India to bridge the gap of poor and rich. Lakhs of girls belonging to Sewa Bastis are invited by the people of well-to do families during the navratras and they are worshiped like goddesses with full respect. It proved very effective in strengthening the feeling of social harmony.

The initiatives of Sewa Bharati have received applaud not only from the society but also from the government. It has been honoured by various state governments. “Our work is not reactionary. We are working for the society and not to counter the activities of other people or organisations. This is not sewa. It is our duty towards our own people. It is our duty to provide those facilities to the deprived people that we desire for ourselves. We are basically working with this feeling of duty,” adds Shri Sitaram Kedilaya.

RSS today and its meaning

How the RSS can make a diffrence.

Today India faces many more challenges than it is possible to imagine.

What RSS can do ?

a. Direct the members to give up Rigidity and adopt flexibility.

b. Spend more time on relevant issues rather than irrelevant issues.

c. Create value for India.

d. Create Stability and Security for India.

e. Create Focus for India.

My Vision:

Our Focus is not to be in Power nor to be a problem to any Organisation.

We should try and use our Shakas to Teach Reiki, Yoga, Stress Reduction Techniques and try to teach our Country men the value of our History:

I will give you below some details of Indian History:

Hindu influence on Greece:

A long time back, I had purchased a Greek Travel handbook, sized like a Oxford dictionary it contained a lot of maps and History of Greece.I came across the following places with Sindhi/Hindi names (as most names have a meaning- which is relevant to the place) the places that caught my eye were: Kalimata,Naxos,Bala, Kirti, Khalkiddiki. A few years latter, I was seated next to a Greek Historian and asked him about these names, he confirmed that there was a place called Khalkiddiki and it was named as this place was a trap for enemy soldiers and many a enemy soldiers had died here, after being trapped. This confirmed my view point that Khal (Death) kiddiki( Window) was a Sindi/Hindi name. What were these places doing in Greece ? This made me dig a little deeper into Greek History. This is what I found: Minoans in 3000 BC came to Crete from Asia Minor and settled there ( www.wsu.edu.8000/) these people used to trade with Europeans and Asians. They build a lot of palaces and were living in Cities (Which were uncommon to Europe at that time.) Greeks could not understand their language and hence used to call them (bar bar bar – which again if you see is a Indian word that is “bar bar” means a person just is talking nonsense- infact this is what the Greeks also meant and from this came the word “barbarian” in other words savage came from people who spoke nonsense and not the actual type of people.!! Cretans at those times had advanced Navy and were highly familiar with Egyptians and build their wealth thru trading. In 1600 Bc Mycenans overtook the Mionans. The Mionan and the Mycenan language laid a foundation for the Greek language latter. Mycenans were known for trading in Perfumes, Metal weapons, Fabrics etc…. Infact Greeks, Like Egyptians had temples and even they had many Gods. They used to also worship the Sun God (also Eyptians) and their Sun God was Apollo. There are many similarities of Greek, Egyptian temples to our temples- like the Sun,Serpent,Idols etc…. It is well known that Idol worship was prevalent all over the world and only went out of fashion in 500 Ad….the most probable reason would have been that due to lack of good artisans and due to the concepts traveling too far from Asia resulted in horrific idols that did not bring peace but torment to the worshippers and by this time Religions like Christianity and Islam were formed and they need their own ideology and base. So mostly the earlier worshippers were called Pagans. These temples were eventually destroyed by the invading Romans. As seen all over the world most religious places were destroyed and replaced with the Religion places of the conquerors. In this case Churches. Invasions mostly take place when the Countries get prosperous and the neighboring countries take over these places to gain in wealth and knowledge of the place. Greece is known as per the English History to be the first Civilisation. If you go and search on the Internet- the first Civilization was somewhere near Sindh. Also the importance and existence of a Silk route has been stressed from olden times. Let us see how the English Historians could see and how far they could understand Sindh. As per the English History they placed importance on Greece ( as from England their Horizon was Greece) and as the Romans came to Greece they placed importance on Egypt) as they could see that the Greek wealth had their origins on the Horizon called Egypt ( Alexander the Great invaded Egypt) upon coming to Egypt their Horizon was widened as the wealth in Greece and Egypt was mostly based on Goods coming from INDUS VALLEY CIVILIZATION. So Alexander came to conquer the Indus Valley Civilization. English History has not given it’s due to importance to Sindh for a very important reason, which will be explained in latter chapters. One thing is very clear that there was a definite Asian/Egyptian influence on Greece and Europeans. Greece was a Entreport between Egypt and Europe.Egypt was a Entreport between Indus valley civilization and Greece.Indus valley civilization was a Major trading hub. (Sindhi/Hindi/Punjabi/Gujrati Combination)It compromised of :
Sindhis to the west- Marwaris to the east.Punjabis to the north – Gujratis to the south.Kutchis in the center.Even today these are the best business communities in India.

Sindhis and Gujratis were exposed to travel as both areas were connected by Sea. Whereas Punjabis,Marwaris and Kutchis were mostly inland.

So what makes an Atom is Energy and what makes this world is Energy. Anyhow let us focus on India’s History from year 711 to 1947.Year 711- 1947:India was under foreign rule. 1236 years of occupation- Destruction and carnage of Hinduism took place.
 Inaugurating

 Sasthamkotta: Prantheeya
Seva Vibagh of RSS came forward to support Rajesh who was in the verge of
stopping education due to poverty.

Rajesh a bright student who scored
99.3% Mark in recently held Plus Two examination belong to a poor Hindu family.
He lives with his mother Kamalamma in a hut. Father left the family leaving the
Mother and Rajesh years back, when he was a kid.

With the help of his uncle
and encouragement from mother he studied hard and scored high marks in all
exams. But the financial burden faced by a Hindu student who don’t have any
support from the side of Government, forced Rajesh too to go for daily wage job
as a mason.

 RSS Kollam Jilla Sahakaryavahak
Suresh, Jilla Seva Pramukh A.G.Sreekumar, Taluk Karyavahak Ratheesh and other
swayamsevaks from the area met Rajesh in his house and offered all future help
to complete his Education

 The timely helping hand
extended by RSS will help Rajesh to full fill his dream to become an Engineer. May
such selfless service from the side of RSS inspire more Hindus to give a

 Unconditional help is a rare
A nice article by Tarun Vijay on BJP's victory

THE RIGHT VIEW
Why Kaveri wears saffron 28 May 2008, 1943 hrs IST,Tarun Vijay

The saffron Karnataka wears is aglow with the sacrifices of the anonymous workers who lived with a reason, for a cause. Who sowed saffron in Karnataka's soil – like Yadav Rao Joshi, H V Seshadri, Suryanarain Rao, often going to sleep on an empty stomach but worked day and night to spread the message of a strong nationalism, motherland first and foremost. Everything else was secondary.

When Seshadri breathed his last, he was listening to the Sangh prayer – namaste sada vatsale matribhume (Salutations to thee, O beloved motherland...) But Vidhan Saudha was never on their radar of achievements. Their mission was and remains a total transformation of society into a proud, strong, self-reliant, knowledge reservoir with character which would lead Bharat, which is India, into the highest ranks of the comity of nations. Political power is just one small step in that direction.

The people who remember their past have a future. The saffron we see blooming in the South is powered with the ideas of a man whose birth anniversary would largely go unnoticed today. Veer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar was the name of the man who shook Hindus from their lethargic and self-demeaning attitude and who put the word Hindutva in vogue.

I remember Madhumangal Sharma who was killed while reading a book by Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya in his Imphal house. The day bullets pierced his heart, through the book, happened to be 11th February, 1995. It was also the martyrdom day of the author he liked most, Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, who was murdered mysteriously on 11th Feb 1968 on a moving train.

One could wonder in these times of extreme parochialism why a Manipuri in Imphal would be reading a book by a northerner? The same Manipur has banned all books of Hindi writers, Hindi movies, and finally the national anthem now.

The martyrdom of Pt Upadhyaya and Madhumangal and many others for a cause energised a collective will to bring change in polity. That's what nationalism is all about. Different parts, one body. There are youngsters who still have the courage to stand for a broader, Indian nationalism in Manipur facing foreign-funded extremists who have otherwise succeeded in silencing all other voices reflecting Indianness.

What makes them brave the bullets? Love for motherland, and that's saffron unquestioningly.

Shyama Prasad Mookerjee was born in Bengal and became the youngest ever vice-chancellor of Calcutta University at the age of 33. He was a close friend of Kaji Nazrul Islam, helped him when he needed most, was a part of the family of Rabindranath Tagore, became a legendary figure in his life time, inherited a legacy Bengal is justifiably proud of, and he died for Kashmir. His mysterious “death” in the jail of Sheikh Abdullah, in Srinagar on 23rd June 1953 raised questions that are still unanswered. The only reason for his untimely death was his demand that Kashmir be assimilated in India like any other state. And there should not be two flags, two constitutional provisions and two heads in relation to Kashmir. He was arrested for entering the valley without a permit, in his own country and jailed where he met a sudden death.

Mookerjee’s mother, Jogmaya Devi wrote to Nehru on 4 July 1953: “His death is shrouded in mystery. Is it not most astounding and shocking that ever since his detention there, the first information that I, his mother, received from the government of Kashmir was that my son was 'no more', and that also at least two hours after the end? And in what a cruel, cryptic way the message was conveyed! '. A fearless son of free India has met his death while 'in detention without trial' under most tragic and mysterious circumstances. I, the mother of the great departed soul, demand that an absolutely impartial and open enquiry by independent and competent persons be held without any delay. I know nothing can bring back to us the life that is no more. But I do want that the people of India must judge for themselves, the real causes of this great tragedy enacted in a free country and the part that was played by your government.”

Nehru gave a short reply on 5 July 1953: “l did not venture to write to you before without going into the matter of Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee's detention and death fairly carefully. I have since enquired further into it from a number of persons who had occasion to know 'some facts'. I can only say to you that I arrived at the clear and honest conclusion that there is no mystery in this and that Dr Mookerjee was given every consideration.”

This was really rude and Jogmaya Devi replied on 9th July, 1953: “Your letter dated 5th July reached me on the 7th. It is a sad commentary on the whole situation. Instead of helping to clear up the mystery, your attitude deepens it (further). I demanded an open enquiry. I did not ask 'for your clear and honest conclusion'. Your reaction to the whole affair is now well known. The people of India and I, the mother, have got to be convinced. There is a rooted suspicion in the mind of many. What is required is 'an open, impartial, immediate enquiry'.

'Your experience in jails is known to all. It was at one time a matter of great national pride with us. But you had suffered imprisonment under an alien rule and my son has met his death in detention without trial under a national government. It is futile to address you further. You are afraid to face facts. I hold the Kashmir government responsible for the death of my son. I accuse your government of complicity in the matter.”

Nehru never cared to reply.

Shyama Prasad's martyrdom too has added to the saffron we see in Karnataka.

The Kothari brothers and others who died facing brutal police repression in Ayodhya during their satyagraha to demand a Ram Temple in 1990 is a scar on India's body that would hardly be forgotten. The other side of the secular Talibanism creates ghettoes of Gulags and Siberia-ism for votebank politics. Hasn't the accumulated angst against these discriminations fuelled a change in the Indian political scene? Remember the best of Indian soldiers, editors and actors like Gen Candeth, Gen. Jacob, Girilal Jain and Victor Banerjee joined the saffron side in the aftermath of Ayodhya. And who were those who died demanding a ban on cow slaughter? Were they simply an expendable crowd of illiterate, empty-headed buffoons, trampling on other's rights in times when editors love to write about restaurants serving the most tasty beef?

Those teachers and truck drivers and auto-rickshaw owners who were killed in Kannur and Palakad just for wearing saffron have also contributed to the Karnataka victory.

And those hundreds of highly qualified selfless workers who lived and died anonymously for seeing saffron bloom, did help in paving the way for the leaders who rule today with a broad smile on their faces, though they never aspired to work for a political fortune.

Who were those workers who dedicated their lives for a cause that would never provide them comfort or fame? What was that magic bond that bound them in a solidarity that would not be shaken under any circumstances. They first fought the British, then the Communists and their political mates in Congress and progressed astoundingly well in spite of a collective media assault and opposition that would surpass every logic and sense of balance. Today the saffron brotherhood is running the largest number of successful schools, has the highest number of service projects in slums and tribal areas across the country from Port Blair to Leh and Naharlagun to the Nilgiris, runs centres to train Scheduled Caste youths as priests and computer engineers and provides the nation the sinews it needs during any crisis. None will see these elements of fire and light but will only comment frivolously on the electoral underpinnings and caste-religion equations. The saffron we see blooming over the Vidhan Saudha in Bangalore is the result of a collective will engulfing the grand Indian picture we worship as mother incarnate.

Those who occupy the plush chairs inside must remember this and the responsibility that comes along with wearing colour. The land of Hampi and Basaveshwara and Kanak Dasa wants to see that the polluted Kaveri (Cauvery) of public administration, behavior and accountability be cleaned and Sanskrit and Sanskriti (culture) flowers unhindered. Always remember why Hampi was razed and for whom. Should the children of that past forget their ancestors and get glued to elements that negate the fragrance of the land? Karnataka results have defied the pettiness of the polity we had been witnessing over water sharing and language–regional conflicts and have proved that merger with the nationalist cause is worthier than asserting parochial and smaller identities. It's also a verdict against hate and ideological apartheid.

Media with seculars of the red variety have turned saffron into a term of abuse and derided its use as if belonging to saffron is a sin. Today with Karnataka, saffron rules over seven states on its own. The red smart seculars, self-obsessed “upholders” of the peace marches and candle-burning rituals for Afzals and betrayers of faith, find themselves completely marginalized and shrunk. Naturally so. As the grand Indian vision expands, the myopic market managers of Marx and Macs will have to squeeze into a smaller space.

I have always maintained that the hate factor in Indian politics is a contribution of the left and alien thought processes. Swami Dayananda fiercely attacked the practice of idol worship among Hindus but he was accommodated and respected, not turned into an outcaste and fatwa-ed to death. Guru Nanak and Kabir criticized ritualism and the blind faith prevalent among influential Hindus. But they were revered and adored. Hate and animosity on the basis of beliefs is alien to Hindus and was introduced by those who are inherently intolerant to the different viewpoint.

There is no reason for the hate between various political parties in India – after all they all swear to work for the good of India and Indians. The polity must play on the foundation of a pan-Indian vision. Programmes may differ but the fragmentisation must come to an end giving way to fraternisation. Seculars have so far invested their pride in being backward, most backward and other backwards. Yet they call themselves as most progressives. See what's happening in Rajasthan. A matter of pride?

It's the dharma of all Indian political organisations to see that India prospers and doesn't fall prey to divisive and mutually hateful policies to nurse vote banks. The nation must stand taller than the South Blocked ambitions.

The author is the Director, Dr Syamaprasad Mookerjee Research Foundation.
